The ESOS PhD thesis, carried out at the IETR (Institut d'Électronique et des Technologies du numéRique*) and IRISA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires**) laboratories, cover a broad spectrum of eco-design approaches, ranging from material substitution to hardware-software co-optimisation, additive manufacturing, energy recovery and extending the service life of systems. The application of these methods and their combination with LCA analyses of target systems make it possible to identify the best opportunities for eco-design and to pinpoint the main scientific barriers to reducing the environmental impacts of these systems. They also help pave the way for the implementation of circularity strategies in digital electronics.
